In 1936, the man that became the legend, Jim McDonnell, was born in the shadow of the Devil’s Bit Mountain in Gurtagarry, Co.Tipperary. Jim Mac was a publican, craftsman, patriarch, confidant; the friend you want, the rival you don’t. Warrior on the hurling field, gentleman off it. He welcomed one and all to his pub, known locally as “The Shop”, with open arms and kind words. It was a place where heroes and warriors of the great game of hurling mix with friends and family, to share spirited stories over a glass of Jim Mac, in the company and realm of the great man.
